Briefly: Utah eyes eliminating “use it or lose it” water law

KSL TV reports that Utah lawmakers have approved a measure that would loosen a restrictive water law that will allow people advocating for the Great Salt Lake to buy and lease water to help fill it, eliminating the so-called “use it or lose it” restrictions that have said all water must be put to beneficial use. The governor must still sign HB33, which will allow the state forestry division to hold water rights to benefit the lake.
