Briefly: Drought, closed rivers cause alarm in outdoor rec industry

The Denver Post reports that the outdoor recreation industry is seeing a shift as a result of climate change. Lower water levels, shorter winters, wildfire, poor air quality, and warmer temperatures are forcing the industry to speak out regarding climate change. The outdoor recreation industry provides a multibillion-dollar contribution to the U.S. economy. According to the Outdoor Industry Association, 7.1 million more Americans participated in outdoor recreation in 2020 than in 2019. Some business owners are taking the lead to improve conditions by aiming for net-zero carbon emissions or raising money to support improved watershed management.
