Briefly: Nederland grants its watershed “inalienable” rights

The Denver Post reports that Nederland, Colo., is the first municipality in the Rocky Mountain West to give its 448-square-mile watershed fundamental and inalienable rights. As of July 6, 2021, Nederland passed a resolution that involves the town trustees appointing guardians who can speak on behalf of nature. The current goal is to avoid litigation but begin having conversations regarding population growth and increased development.
