In Brief: Arizona endorses sale of Colorado River water

The News & Observer is reporting that the Arizona Department of Water Resources recently endorsed the sale of water between GSC Farm LLC and Queen Creek suburb in Phoenix; the water would come from farmland near the Colorado River.

GSC sought approval from the state last year to leave three-quarters of a square mile of farmland dry and sell its annual entitlement of approximately 678 million gallons for a one-time payment of $21 million. A series of meetings were held by the Arizona Department of Water Resources where public input generated 854 written comments, out of 872 total received, that expressed feelings of opposition regarding the deal.
