Briefly: Colorado River hydropower declines minimally impact largest customer

The Colorado Sun reports that while the water level at Lake Powell is at its lowest level since the reservoir was filled in 1980 — only about 24% full — and hydropower generation on the Colorado River system is projected to dip about 15% below last year’s levels, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, the largest hydropower customer on the Colorado River system has not see a significant impact. Tri-State, which provides power to 42 cooperatives in four states, including Colorado, receives only 8% of its total energy from the Colorado River Storage Project. This reduction in hydropower production accounts for only 3% of its total system.
