Briefly: New Mexico pueblo leaders urge support for federal water rights bill

Mountain West News Bureau reports that leaders of four pueblos are seeking support for a measure proposed by U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, a democrat from New Mexico, that would compensate the tribes for water rights held by the federal government. If approved, the measure would place $1.34B into trust funds for the native communities, providing cash for new pipelines, irrigation system repair, and watershed protection, among other things.
