In Brief: Builders complain as Northern Colorado water prices soar

Wellington, Colo., is tripling its water rates for new developments, according to reporting this week from the Fort Collins Coloradoan, and some builders are considering pulling out. Wellington increased raw water rates from $19,285.50 to $67,586.00 for 0.58 acre-foot of water, the amount the town requires developers cover for each new dwelling unit. According to town Planning Director Cody Bird, Wellington hasn’t raised raw water rates since 2017.

The cost increase could add $40,000 to the cost of a new home, developers said, making Wellington’s development fees the highest in Larimer County.
