In Brief: U.S. Supreme Court sides with New Mexico in Pecos River case

The Santa Fe New Mexican is reporting that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of New Mexico involving its right to credit for evaporated water on the Pecos River. Texas had disputed its right to the credit. But New Mexico water officials caution that the Pecos River case is a lesser concern than another U.S Supreme Court battle involving Texas and Colorado over the Rio Grande River.

In that case Texas has accused New Mexico farmers of illegally pumping groundwater and harming Rio Grande River supplies owed to Texas. Colorado is a party to that case.
