Briefly: New Mexico boosts efforts to enforce protections for land, water

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, New Mexico is working to strengthen its efforts to enforce environmental rules to protect land and water. However, the Office of Natural Resources and the Environmental Department saw a budget cut of 42 percent over the last three years and have only regained roughly 22 percent recently. Now Environmental Secretary James Kenney is asking lawmakers to boost the agency’s general fund by $3.7 million in order to adequately oversee environmental enforcement.
