Pitkin County Open Space and Trails has initiated restoration efforts within the North Star Nature Preserve in Aspen, according to a report by Aspen Journalism and 9News. The program’s fen restoration project aims to utilize a fibrous wetland plug that will increase saturated conditions and enhance the fen’s ability to provide ecological services to the preserve. Once construction is complete, the fen will be monitored by hydrologists and botanists for three years.
